Camino de Santiago 2003
The Way of St.
James is the route followed by St. James the Apostle
twenty centuries ago when he came to the Iberian peninsula to evangelize its inhabitants.
When the tomb of St. James was found in the IXth century, thousands of pilgrims
from all Europe and Spain travelled by foot to the city
of Santiago de Compostela to venerate the remains of the Apostle. The apex of
pilgrimage took place between the Middle Age and the XVIth century. It then fell
in decadence until the end of the XXth century when the route was restored and signaled. In the XXI century, the way is in full apogee with
thousands of pilgrims each year.
